Betting on the US PGA Championship
There is only one market that dominates the media ahead of any of the golf majors and that is who is going to be lifting the trophy aloft come the Sunday evening and that is no different at the PGA Championship. There will be endless debate amongst golf fans around the globe as to who will claim the final major of the season and near enough everyone in the field will be tipped by some so-called expert along the way.
Only two or three players maximum will command odds of less than 15/1 pre-tournament so it is certainly still well worth your while to back them each-way.
US PGA Championship Betting Markets And Offers
As befitting a major championship bookmakers are offering a wide range of betting markets. If each-way is still a little too risky then there will be markets offered on top 10 and top 20 finishes which gives you plenty of scope but obviously the tournament favourites will have very short odds indeed in these markets. However, make a clever selection from the back of the field and there is still plenty of money to be won.
Winning nationality is often a popular market to bet on at the US PGA Championship, and as mentioned it is often the Americans that succeed in this event so they will be favourite generally in this market. This year is no exception with Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson and Rickie Fowler all amongst the frontrunners.
However, there are plenty of nations with at least two or three strong challengers so the likes of South Africa, England and Australia are all options as well.
On a similar vein you can bet on who will finish with the best score within nationalities which are often nice little profit makers. If you fancy someone for a good run but not sure if they will quite out-do the whole field, you can at least back them to out-strip their own countrymen.
Other popular markets include:
- Winning Score
- Winning Margin
- 18 Match Bets
- 72 Hole match Bets
- Group Betting
- Play Off?
- Top British Player
- Top European Player
- Top US Player
- Top Rest of the World Player
Bookmakers are offering some bonuses related to the USPGA Championship such as enhanced place terms, money back as a free bet if your player finishes second or third and a free bet for every birdie recorded by the player you back.
2020 USPA Championship
This year's tournament is scheduled to take place between August 6 and 9 and will be the first Major held in 2020. It is die to be played at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. It has not been confirmed whether this will have crowds attending or be held behind closed doors.
2019 - Koepka Retains USPGA Title
- Brooks Koepka -8
- Dustin Johnson -6
- Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Speith and Matt Wallace -2
Brooks Koepka became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to retain the USPGA title. He built up a seven-shot lead after two rounds (Tiger missed the cut) and kept that after round three. He stuttered a bit in his final round but still managed to win by two strokes from Dustin Johnson. Not just that but his win took him above Johnson to the top of the world rankings. Koepka has won three of the last four Majors.
Recent Winners
Tiger Woods has set the benchmark in terms of scoring at the tournament as he has twice won the competition with an outrageous score of -18, once at Valhalla in 2000 and again at Medinah in 2006. However, Woods’ four titles at the PGA Championship has been eclipsed by the great Jack Nicklaus who managed five in an incredible span from 1963 to 1980 and also Walter Hagen who managed five in the matchplay format.
Unsurprisingly it has been Americans more than any other nationality that have got their hands on the trophy although things have changed a little wince the turn of the millennium with the likes of Padraig Harrington, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy twice and sensationally Yang-Yong-eun emerging victorious.
