Fulham v Tottenham Hotspur Preview : Fulham Needing a Win
- VENUE
- Craven Cottage
- TIME
- Thursday 4 March 6pm
Fulham remain in the bottom three of the Premier League after their weekend draw at Crystal Palace. They host Tottenham on Thursday and a victory will see them climb out of the relegation zone..
Crucial Period Begins for Cottagers
A second relegation from the Premier League is still on the cards for Fulham. They go into this game three points from safety but have a massive incentive for this match. They have a better goal difference than 17th placed Newcastle United so a win here will see them climb one place and no longer be in the relegation zone. That's easier said than done and Fulham have only won one of their last eight league games.
They are actually on an unbeaten run of five games in the Premier League but three of those matches were drawn. They need to be getting wins if relegation is to be avoided. Is it just fate though that their last game of the season just happens to be a home match against Newcastle?
The big problem Fulham have is in scoring. Only 21 league goals have been scored by Fulham this season. That's just one more than Tottenham have scored in their away games. Fulham have just two in their last seven home league matches, both scored by Ademola Lookman. They have only managed to get on the scoresheet in five of their 13 home Premier League games this season, no wonder they are in relegation trouble. Seven of their last eight home league games played at Craven Cottage have had under 2.5 goals scored in them.
They really could have done with winning at Palace on Sunday. After this game, Fulham go to Liverpool and then host Manchester City. Their position in a week or so may not be that healthy unless they get a win from somewhere.
Tottenham Bid to Continue Improved Form
There have been question marks over the futures of Jose Mourinho and Gareth Bale but they may well have the last laugh come the end of the season. It could still be a big season for them if they can rediscover the consistency they had earlier in the season.
Tottenham ended the weekend in eighth place in the Premier League. That doesn't sound great considering they were top of the table earlier in the season. However, they are only five points behind fourth placed West Ham United and have this game in hand on the Hammers. A major feature of their early season form was the number of goals they were scoring. Tottenham come into this match having scored four goals in three of their last four fixtures. Wolfsberger conceded four goals, home and away against Tottenham and then Spurs convincingly beat Burnley 4-0 in the Premier League. Gareth Bale seems to have finally come to life with four goals, including two against Burnley. Might he be a major influence on the rest of the season?
There are some great odds of 23/10 at Betfred on Bale scoring in this game.

Tottenham still have the Carabao Cup final to play against Manchester City and are in the last sixteen of the Europa League. They need to keep on winning games and get the confidence that will bring them. With Harry Kane and Son-Heungh Min also scoring goals in recent games, Tottenham fans may not have too much to worry about after all. Away form has been a problem of late in the Premier League with three straight defeats. A win at Fulham looks possible and that will really boost their Champions League qualification hopes.
Current odds for Tottenham to beat Fulham are 19/20 with William Hill
